About Medical Writing

Medical Writing (MEW)) , formerly The Write Stuff (TWS), is a quarterly journal that acts as an organ for the medical writing community in Europe. The journal publishes research and opinion pieces from a wide range of expert authors on topics relevant to the practice of the medical writing profession and informs about guidelines and best practice. It aims to educate, inform and entertain medical writers.

With an average of 70 pages per issue, the journal provides:

  • A platform for thought-leader articles on research and topics related to medical writing
  • A forum for discussion
  • A resource for information relevant to the practice of the medical writing profession
  • An avenue for EMWA members to keep abreast of EMWA's activities and upcoming events

Each issue has a theme. The themes of the 2012 issues are:

  • Medical Writing in Oncology
  • Medical Writing in Paediatrics
  • Writing Matters
  • Medical Writing in Diabetes/Obesity

Each issue also has sections dedicated to medical translation and freelance members, as well as regular columns on:

  • Medical regulatory writing
  • Manuscript writing
  • Medical journalism
  • Medical communications
  • Good writing practice
  • Research, guidelines, opinions and information relevant to medical writing published in biomedical journals, with an emphasis on publication ethics
  • English language grammar and style
  • Book reviews
  • Reviews of websites relevant to medical writing
  • Letters to the editor

The journal also publishes occasional reports on:

  • EMWA conferences
  • Guidelines/best practices relevant to medical writing
  • Surveys of the membership (ghostwriting, salaries, etc.)

The journal has been established for more than 10 years under the title The Write Stuff and is being re-launched in 2012 under the title Medical Writing, published by Maney Publishing. The journal will be published in print and online formats. EMWA members will continue to receive the print version as a benefit of membership and can gain online access to each new issue before print, as well as gain access to the complete electronic archive of past issues of the journal, by logging into the members-only section of the EMWA website.

Subscriptions are also available to non-members via Maney Publishing. For more information about subscribing to the journal if you are not a member of EMWA, or if you would like an institutional subscription, please visit www.maney.co.uk/journals/mew.
